Yes... I did it and survived!

For those 5 of you who actually read this blog...you may recall that I have had a few firsts this year. #1 was that I actually ordered fish at a restaurant! And #2 I gave blood (without passing out I might add).

Today I did something else...and it was something that I NEVER EVER thought I would do.
3 factors came together to make this happen today.
1- I covered for a lady at work that had to leave early and couldn't facilitated the OB tour one day. It was no problem and I didn't think anything of it. Then I got a letter in the mail from her, with a free movie pass in it! Sweet! That was a fun surprise! Anytime she needs me to cover- I'm game!
2- A few years ago, in a conversation with a friend, she mentioned that she had gone to a movie all by herself. I was shocked that people actually did that. I expressed my shockness to her (Not a word, but I sure like it!). And was quickly corrected by her that every person should do it at least once in their life. I vowed that I would not. However, since this conversation, many a person that I have talked to, have agreed with her on this point.
3- You see this movie
I've wanted to see it from the moment I heard that they were making it! I loved the first one and saw it many times in the theater. The problem is that I don't get out to movies too much so the weeks were passing by and I was feeling "sad" that I probably wouldn't get a chance to see it in the theater.
Today being my day off, I decided that I wanted to go see it. I'm sure I could have found someone to go with me, but then I put all three of the above mentioned things together and thought to myself - "Self, maybe we should go together, just you and I". So that we did!
I went all by myself to the theater, stuck my free ticket under the glass, and asked for 1 ticket. I walked in with confidence that I was okay with being alone, smiled at the other 2 people in there and just plopped down.
I really liked the movie and I think that I shall do it again sometime. (Surprisingly!)
Now, I am sure that each one of you has a deep desire to go and see a movie by yourself after reading this riveting tale. But let me lend you some expert advice (I consider myself an expert now you see, since I have seen it one whole time!) Maybe a comedy isn't the best choice! Its hard to really laugh as much as you want to when there is no one that you know right next to you to join in. In theory, you could turn around to the people behind you and laugh with them, but that may be a little awkward.
I just kinda chuckled to myself throughout the movie.
And now come to think of it, a scary movie wouldn't be such a good idea either. I can only imagine how hard that would be- screaming and then accidentally grabbing the person next to you- that you dont know. Awkward. I think that may be frowned upon.
I'm kinda thinking that either a chick flick or a good crying movie (which possibly could be the same thing) would be best! It easier to cry than to laugh or scream alone!
Just food for thought! And let me know if and when you do it! It is kinda of liberating! :)

There were 8 people who commented on your last blog. So adding the quiet readers, who do not comment, I'm sure there are more than 5 readers of this fun blogg. As far as your adventure for today, I'm proud of you for doing such a self confident thing.

Way to go! I'm proud of you. I have yet to do that but think I should also venture out and just check it off the list. I'm sure I'd find it better than I imagine!

P.S. I love reading you blog and always look forward to what you've got to say! :)

I never have gone to a movie by myself but I have never thought about it either. Maybe I will someday. It will be because of you and your blog. You gave my the idea.

I have also gone to a movie by myself. It was when I was in Paris and I was supposed to meet a girlfriend for a night out, but she cancelled at the last minute, and I did not want to stay home alone, and since I was already out, I thought why not. I did go to a chick flick and it was a good choice. Luckily they have some theaters where they show the movie in English with French subtitles cause I would not have enjoyed it much if I had to figure out what they were saying the whole time.

Shockness! (Good word.) So, do you recommend this movie? How many stars would you give it? I think I"ll just wait until it comes out on DVD. And yes, you have more than 5 readers of this blog. : )

Jill! Your blog posts always make me laugh. I, personally, have not been to a movie by myself. BUT, I have several friends who do it on a regular basis and actually prefer to go to movies by themselves rather than with others. I may try it one day and when I do I'll let you know!

By the way, did I tell you I started a blog recently (yes, 5 years after the rest of the world). It's nothing exciting, but check it out if you want:

Yea Jill! Once I couldn't find any one to go to a hockey game with me and I wanted to go so I went by myself. I loved it. (I was actually able to watch the whole game and didn't miss any of it because I was chatting.) The only downfall was that I didn't have any one to talk about exciting things that happened.

The only time I went to a movie by myself was a matinée of Wayne's World. I think there were maybe three people in the theater (sounds an awful lot like your experience) and it just wasn't funny at all. I couldn't figure out why people loved this movie so much. A few months later, I went to a midnight showing with about a dozen friends and it was hysterical. I have to second your idea that a comedy isn't the best kind of movie for this experiment.

I have done it once about 3 years ago on one of my days off in the middle of the week too. I can't even remember what movie it was, but I agree I would do it again if there is a movie that Rob refuses to go with me to.

Jill, thanks for reminding me how fun it is to go to movies by myself. I have only gone by myself once also, but I had completely forgotten about it. I am ready to be liberated again. I am picturing my baby asleep in his bed, my hubby studying diligently downstairs, and me at the movie theater eating the whole cup of popcorn and crying. Honestly, thanks for the reminder!
